Benefits

During the year of service, AmeriCorps and VISTA members are considered volunteers but are provided with benefits that allow them to make full-time commitment to their service.

AmeriCorps Members Receive:
  • Educational Award for College of up to $4,725
  • Monthly Living Stipend of up to $1,450 gross

VISTA Members Receive:
  • A choice between an educational award of $4,725 or $1,200 cash stipend.
  • Monthly living allowance of $939 (gross).
  • Individual health insurance.
  • Childcare reimbursement of up to $400 (based on eligibility).
  • Monthly housing stipend of up to $850.
  • Current educational loan deferment.
  • Professional growth and training opportunities.
  • Relocation reimbursement (if qualified).

Trainings

During the year of service, AmeriCorps and VISTA members are provided with an orientation and monthly training opportunities.

AmeriCorps members receive training opportunities through CONNECT and Prevent Child Abuse California (PCA CA). Opportunities include an introduction into national service, specific project-related skill building training, professional development, and leadership.

VISTA members receive opportunities through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and CONNECT, including a Pre-Service Orientation prior to the start of their year of service and an In-Service Training (IST) approximately three to four months into their service. Trainings provide members with an understanding of poverty in America and of VISTA’s mission, build project-related skills, and increase professional development.
