Orange County Capacity Building Program | Additional Information

Notice: The proposal submission period for Cycle 1 has ended. The RFP for Cycle 2 will be posted on October 19.

Additional Grant Information:

Over the course of the two-year grant, the OCCBP will support community and faithbased organizations by providing broad access to capacity building workshops, technical assistance services and financial assistance. A total of $600,000 in sub-awards will be granted during the competitive process and more than 100 organizations will receive a broad range of capacity building services.

The OCCBP is made possible through the Strengthening Communities Fund and a matching grant from the Children and Families Commission of OC. The OCCB program partners include OCF’s CONNECT: Partnership for Nonprofit Solutions program, the Children and Families Commission of OC, Families and Communities Together (FaCT), the OC’s Workforce Investment Boards and the Volunteer Center of OC.

The OCCBP is currently seeking qualified, interested organizations to complete an online eligibility questionnaire and register. All qualified organizations will receive information on upcoming capacity building training workshops, technical and financial assistance sub-award bidder’s conference and application notices.

OCCBP will target Orange County grassroots, faith-based and nonprofit organizations serving the following cities:

  • Anaheim            
  • Buena Park                        
  • Fullerton            
  • Garden Grove 
  • La Habra            
  • Santa Ana                          
  • Stanton              
  • Westminster

Capacity Building Sub-Awards are NOT Available for:

  • Direct Services                         
  • Medical Services
  • Fundraising Activities
  • Construction Activities
  • Support of Inherently Religious Activities 

OCCBP will provide capacity building training and technical assistance to organizations that support economic recovery and offer job readiness resources issues, including helping low income individuals:

  • Secure employment
  • Gain greater access to State and Federal Benefits and tax credits
  • Increase their ability to earn higher wages and obtain better quality jobs

All organizations participating in OCCBP must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be physically located in Orange County.
  • Must provide services in at least one of the following cities: Anaheim, Buena Park, Fullerton, Garden Grove, La Habra, Santa Ana, Stanton, and Westminster.
  • Services provided by the organization must include workforce development or job readiness or support services.
  • Must complete online eligibility questionnaire.

Tier 1 (Cohort): Capacity Building Workshops

  • Available to all organizations meeting the above requirements
  • Will be notified by email and must register to attend
  • Must complete our online eligibility questionnaire
  • 1 additional free capacity building workshop scholarship per organization will be provided at the Volunteer Center of Orange County

Tier 2 & 3 Awarded Projects Must:

  • Meet the above minimum requirements
  • Complete online eligibility questionnaire
  • Submit a capacity building project proposal through the competitive RFP process
  • Participate in pre/post service organizational assessment

Tier 2 & 3 Awarded Projects Will Receive: 

Tier 2 Awards:

  • Access to workshop scholarships at the Volunteer Center of Orange County
  • Customized workshops in facilitated learning groups.
  • Up to 20 hours of one-on-one customized technical assistance

Tier 3 Awards:

  • Access to workshop scholarships at the Volunteer Center of Orange County
  • Customized workshops in facilitated learning group over grant period
  • Up to 80 hours of one-on-one customized technical assistance
  • Capacity Building sub-award ofup to 20% of operating budget or $50,000, whichever is less

Organizations with budgets under $500,000 and/or serving families receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) in Orange County's targeted communities will be given additional points and priority or financial assistance.
