Orange County Capacity Building Program
What is OCCBP? The Orange County Capacity Building Program (OCCBP) was a two year program funded by a $1 million dollar Federal stimulus grant awarded to Orangewood Children's Foundation. From January 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2011 OCCBP provided support services for twenty Orange County nonprofit subawardees including consultants, capacity building workshops, and financial assistance. $600,000.00 of the total sum awarded was given to these subawardees. In addition, OCCBP provided access to trainings and workshops to over 200 other qualifying local organizations throughout the same period. Qualifying organizations were limited to nonprofit or faith based organizations that provided services to the following cities in Orange County:
OCCBP was made possible through the Strengthening Communities Fund and a matching grant from the Children and Families Commission of OC. The OCCPB program partners included OCF’s CONNECT: Partnership for Nonprofit Solutions program, the Children and Families Commission of OC, Families and Communities Together (FaCT), the OC’s Workforce Investment Boards and the Volunteer Center of OC.

What is capacity building? Capacity Building as Defined by the Strengthening Communities Fund Capacity building is the process of implementing activities critical to the long-term viability of your organization. The goal of capacity building is to increase organizational infrastructure and bolster sustainability. By building or increasing your organization's capacity, the effectiveness of programmatic activities and organizational operations will also increase. The bottom line is MORE - if your organization is equipped to function smoothly at the operational level, your profile in the community will increase, you'll retain great staff, develop and implement better programs, engage more stakeholders, and be more likely to acquire funding in the future from diverse sources. The end result is your organization's ability to offer more effective services to those who need them most. For more information about capacity building, check out our resource list here
